This 50 / 50 is for the Peachland Food Bank:

$100,000 is the big prize, and Hub volunteers are hoping this 50/50 fundraiser will give them a needed boost towards qualifying for a big grant that will get a new food bank built for Peachland. As mentioned at their recent open house, this is a big priority for the Hub right now.

Cost of the food bank building so far is estimated at $725,000 – and they need a significant amount of funding already in place before applying for the grant that could cover half the cost. Hub vice-chair Rick Ingram explained at their recent open house:

“They only accept applications for the BC Gaming Capital Grant each year between the middle of June and end of July. So that gives us a very hard fundraising target. All the rest of the money for the food bank has to be in place by the end of July this year.”

So, they need Peachlanders’ help: A 50/50 fundraiser is now on, with the draw date happening this summer. If all the tickets are sold, the jackpot will be $100,000.

Here’s Rick and PWC president / Hub treasurer Kym Martin, at the April 2 indoor market!

Another Peachland Hub open house was held Sunday, March 19. Here’s what I wrote

Sunday, April 2: The Hub market is back at the 50+ Centre! 11am – 3pm at the 50+ Centre (5672 Beach Ave)

…And on Saturday, March 11 a team tackled some finishing touches at 4th St Place recently! Thanks to Sarah Kendrick for sending these in. She was joined by her mom, Judy Bedford from the Peachland food bank, Kym Martin from the Peachland Wellness Centre and a team from The Home Depot March 11.

The food bank and the PWC will be moving in soon, because of the seniors housing project. The Hub will be built a the current 50+ location, as a place for non-profits in town / for the community to gather (scroll down for more):

Their Feb 5 indoor market was a success! Many visitors and vendors from out of town, too. I strolled around a took a few pics – this was right after they opened for the day:

So pretty! These are from The Glass Girls.

..And it was so nice to meet a subscriber! I recognized Gene’s name. He and his wife have a little sign business.

I recognize this Susan Haglund piece of art! See also the soy candles and KarMont Farms had their eggs, of course. Plus granola. Which is gooood!

The winner! Logan Ulveland of West Kelowna won the Hub’s big car raffle – for a 1982 Mercedes! Here’s what he had to say. Hub committee members + volunteers from local groups involved in the Hub met recently to congratulate the big winner and hand over the keys:

Lobster night was a great success! It was a sold-out night at the 50+ Centre December 3. Around $8,000 was raised towards the Hub project (scroll down for more on that). Next dinner is planned for March 28, 2023!

Thanks to Shelley Sweeney for sending in these photos:

Congrats to Julia Ledingham, whose name was drawn as the winner of the Food

Bank 50/50 draw! She won a little over $3,800, with the rest going towards building a new food bank location, part of the Hub project.

Here’s the next fundraiser! The winner will be announced Christmas Day:

This was a sold-out event! Watch for another dinner on Tuesday, March 28, 2023:

Nice work, Peachland Wheelnuts! On Oct. 19, they dropped off a couple cheques – $500 to the food bank and $1,000 to the Peachland Hub!

***

On Oct 21 and 22, you may have no choice! It’s all for a good cause, though – the Hub group is planning a Jail n’ Bail and if you’re ‘arrested’, it’s up to you to call your friends to bail you out. Judge Madeleine Nixon was presiding Sunday, Oct 16 in front of the Chamber of Commerce building. You can pay them a visit and sign up for a fun couple of days. You can also send them an email  or call (778) 214-1999.

Examples of charges that could land you in jail include: Bad joke telling, aging too quickly & not showing it, trafficking caffeine, fashion faux pas, etc.

What is the Hub? One day, it will be a community building that will house our local non-profit groups, private rentals, right on Beach Ave (at the present 50+ location).

Here are the groups involved: The Peachland Wellness Centre, Peachland 50+ Activity Centre (the PDRS), the Peachland Food Bank, Peachland Ambassadors, Peachland Lions, Peachland Rotary, Peachland Community Connects, the Peachland Chamber of Commerce, and BEEPS.

I stopped by the Hub’s open house on September 17.

The Hub group wanted to update the public and share the work of their architects so far. They’re also raffling off this 1982 Mercedes 380SL! I had some of the Hub team gather:

**If you want to pay for your tickets in person, go to the PWC (4426 5th St.) & they’ll help you out!

And here’s some raffle info:

The Hub held a boot sale back in May! No, it wasn’t for footwear – people were able to sell their crafts / gently used stuff out of their car trunks, while inside the 50+ Centre, local community groups got a chance to network and let people know what they’re all about!
