Finally, a solution to that everlasting dilemma of what to do with extra zucchini from your garden! It’s a ubiquitous veg this time of year. So why not make a car of it and race your zuke in this year’s Fall Fair?
The Zucchini 500 is a new idea for the September 6&7 event, and it’ll happen on Sunday at 2pm, say Fall Fair organizers, who let The Phoenix in on their official rule book:
“The Zucchini 500 Car Race at the Peachland Fall Fair is a celebration of creativity, friendly competition, and community spirit. This event invites participants of all ages to design and race their own zucchini cars down our specially constructed track.”
Kelowna Truck and RV have generously agreed to sponsor this fun event – you can see a variety of YouTube videos to get an idea. It’s something all ages can do – whether you’re a seasoned vegetable engineer or not!
Head to the Fall Fair website for the full rules. There’s a couple more chances to register and get wheel kits on Friday, September 5th, at the Community Centre between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. Final registration is Sunday between 10:00 am and noon. All competitors must be at the track to check in during this time.

On race day, gather before the 2pm race time just outside the community centre – you won’t miss the 24-ft. race track! There will be different age categories – and yes, prizes, too!
And in case you’re wondering – there are two zucchini categories you can enter in the Fall Fair. If you think you have the longest zucchini, enter it! And there’s another category for zukes eight inches and shorter.
