I’m back on Facebook – and starting next week, let’s return to those Tuesday night newsletters! Two things I hope will boost some numbers + awareness The Phoenix exists.
Follow @thephoenixpeachland on Facebook. The Phoenix – like all professional news outlets in Canada – were blocked off Meta platforms in 2023. I started a new page this week – here’s hoping the FB police don’t get me!
Re the email newsletters: Remember when I used to send stories right after the council meetings? Well, now the meetings are starting three hours earlier, so I’m going to start doing that again! No more writing through the night – and you’ll get the news right after it happens.
Watch for the Poll Question in this week’s email newsletter – I want to know when you prefer to hear from me. Once a week? Whenever I post a story? Let me know, I’m willing to change things up!
Sign up for emails here (use the pop-up form)
Subscribers, you’re still the #1 reason The Phoenix exists. Although there’s 400 people who receive these weekly email newsletters, I have 250 paid subscribers who have access to local news stories. I haven’t grown much since 2023, when I lost my social media – hence the second crack at it!
And – I know, many think ‘ugh’ when it comes to signing up. Why bother? Well, my content is different and more in-depth. Plus, I actually live here and since 2018, have attended almost every council meeting. Phoenix readers really are in the know, more than the average Peachlander.
Stories on New Monaco, Ponderosa, the Peachland splash pad and our water treatment plant are searchable on the site and examples of original journalism you won’t read anywhere else. This only continues with subscriber support.
What about advertising? I prefer to have businesses on my site who align with why we need a professional news source. To that end, The Phoenix also has some valued sponsorships. From the Peachland Fall Fair, to the District of Peachland, Okanagan Valley Girls, Peachland Taxi, Mary Kletchko, Revive Massage Therapy – to individual subscribers who choose to pay a bit more each month. You’re all making this business possible!
Whether you’re opening my emails, clicking that ‘Subscribe’ button (first month is free, by the way!) – know that you’re going to get that good feeling when you give a small business some love. And you’re helping grow our only source of unbiased, professional journalism!
–Kristen
