Paul Graydon jokes he has one of the only jobs in the world where you can grow something, sell it, then watch people enjoy and smile as they buy more.
“I worked in software sales, and believe me, that’s not what happened,” he laughs
It’s been eight years since Paul and his wife Jayne fell in love with a quaint vineyard in Summerland, complete with a charming 1930s home. They turned an empty building into a tasting room and named their new business Saxon Winery, a nod to their roots in Kent, southeast England.
“We drove up to the entrance and Jayne said ‘it looks just like Tuscany. It really was a heart-based decision to buy it,” says Paul.
Here’s an update, straight from Paul at the winery!
We are now at bloom in the vineyard and the vines are progressing unabated – covid or no covid!
The sun is shining and the temperatures soaring right now so the summer looks all set for a good vintage.
As a result of the pandemic many of our clients are now ordering online and benefitting from home delivery direct from our winery.
As owners, often we deliver personally – you should see the surprised reaction when we curbside deliver in person!
Our wine club is getting bigger and better this year and each member will have their name on one of our very rare Leon Millot vines.
We are in fact the largest grower of Leon Millot in BC and this grape creates a delicious rosé style and a low tannin red style.
Our wine shop and tasting room is now open to the public from Thursday to Saturday from 2pm till 5.30 with tastings by appointment outside of these times.
We are planning our Grape Stomp event on Saturday the 26th September which has become an annual highlight for us with live music and tickets available on our website. Covid rules will of course apply to this event.
Let’s hope the new normal is better than the old normal and that we will have something to celebrate with our families and friends in the coming months!
