Blog: This time last year…
Prepping for today’s super-long council meetings and just realized: It was this meeting last year, when I came back to council chambers not as a member of the established media, but as an entrepreneur and journalist wanting very much to bring our community better local news.
That meeting last January was notable because reps from local groups were there to talk about their civic grant applications. I didn’t sit at the media table (yet!), but took a spot in the public gallery. Gary Hedge from Community Policing was to my right, the Sarsons (our Peachland Ambassadors) were just behind, and Fall Fair president Tammy Theriault was on my left. A couple people already knew, but it was a perfect time to talk about my plan to launch The Phoenix. You kind of hold your breath when you’re telling your dream to a bunch of people, but it turned out I had no reason to worry. People were excited. They agreed with me, and they didn’t know it, but that day they gave me a huge boost.
THIS is why I’m putting myself out there. I want to serve Peachland and the best way I can do that is to bring you all the best local news – written with details, insight and some personality.
COTW starts at 9, council meeting is at 7 p.m. Yes, there will be Zoom squares and it’s a bummer not being around that positive community energy that ‘civic grant information day’ seems to bring. But we’ll get there.
In the meantime, I’ll be listening and transcribing and writing all day. It’s been almost a year, and I’m not going anywhere! Thanks, subscribers, for your support.
